International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8th and is a global day of celebration, recognizing the achievements of women. Each year's IWD has a theme, and 2018's is 'Press for Progress,' striving to shrink the gender parity that continues to exist between men and women.
The past many months have been active, with women using their voices to refuse the "status quo". With movements such as #TimesUp and #MeToo there is a strong drive for equality and while we know this shift will take time, we're optimistic by the level of involvement and conversation that continues to take place.
As you know, Ellie Kai was built (and remains!) a steadfast women-for-women business; as we continue to grow and scale, it's one of the grounding principles we hold most dear. Our business model, or team hires and the partners we and interact with are driven by this filter.
Our Marketing Manager, Sammy discusses what this means to her...
To me, being a part of a company that identifies as a 'women-for-women' organization is a step in the direction of being human-for-human, which is a hope I have for us as global citizens. IWD is a great opportunity to pause and reflect, and to re-start dialogue.
Chief Marketing Officer, Ani continues...
I tend to use IWD as a beacon for conversation, not only with my peers and mentors, but also with my family. Though being a working parent has it's hosts of challenges, it is of great pride to me to show my kids what hard-work can accomplish-- regardless of gender.
